Spring Break Trip

The BSU will leave Columbia March 25, 2017 for Denham Springs, Louisiana. It is a 13(ish) hour drive. We will stay at a local church and work every day for 8 hours to help with flood relief in the area. Monday and Thursday night we will partner with LSU's Baptist Collegiate Ministry and participate in one of their worship nights. Friday will be spent exploring New Orleans. We will head back Saturday April 1st. We have around 30 students going and we are excited to grow in our faith while serving others in need.

The BSU will leave on May 14, 2017. The group will pair up with students from LSU and other SEC schools on their way to Botswana, Africa. We will stay at a local Baptist Church, where we will help put on a soccer camp that also is a vacation bible school for the children. We'll be in Botswana for 8-10 days, we will head to Johannesburg, South Africa to do local sightseeing and a safari. On may 30, the group will fly to Lusaka, Zambia where we will work with the Navigators Campus Ministry for students to encourage them and for us to be encouraged as well. We also will take a trip to do rural outreach to a village in the countryside. In this village, we will continue construction on the first flushing toilet. Our trip will be concluded with a visit to Victoria Falls and another safari. The return to the states will begin around June 15.

These 6 have chosen to follow the Lord and spread the gospel in Africa

Hello! My name is Isaac and I am a graduate student in Civil Engineering, and hopefully by the time you are reading this, I will have finished my Masters degree. I am so excited to be going to Africa this summer and cannot wait to see how God uses us and works in and through us as we are serving His children and our brothers and sisters in Christ. I have never been on an international mission trip, but this year I have been given the opportunity to go to Africa AND South America to aid in furthering the Gospel. I feel God has been calling me into missions since my Freshman year of high school, and since then, He has completed many works in my life to get me to the place that I am currently. As I'm graduating and ready to be sent out, I am highly expectant for God to work this summer and so excited to finally be going. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and may God bless you! Thank you for your prayer partnership as well! Missions is only possible through prayer and I cannot thank you enough for partnering with us in that fashion. God bless!

  • Rachel briner

My name is Rachel and I'm a sophomore at the University of Missouri studying Elementary Education and French. Since eighth grade I have had a heart to serve in Africa and felt called to eventually teach at an elementary school in francophone parts of Africa. This mission trip is an incredible opportunity to pursue God's calling on my life!

  • johnny Taylor

Yo, my name is Johnny Lee Taylor II and I'm child of God! Can't wait to go serve you guys in love the way the Son emptied himself the cross! I can't wait to see how God has moved in Botswana and Zambia and see the generation of sons and daughters He has raised up from the grave! My fun fact is that I love you guys more than you'll ever know AND God loves you infinitely more than I ever could!

  • Lauren Salas

Hello lovely people! My name is Lauren Salas and I am an Elementary Education major at the University of Missouri. I am so incredibly thankful to have been given this opportunity to go to Southern Africa this summer!

This past year has been amazing for me. For the first time in my life, I have really begun to understand who God is  and experience His power and love for myself. I have grown so much stronger in my relationship with Him and have been able to form deeper relationships with the people around me. I am much happier and I love people more because of what God has given me. Before I gave my life to Christ, I constantly struggled with my identity and self-worth, but God's love has given me this confidence I have never felt before. In Christ, I am set free. I no longer have to live with this dark cloud hanging over my head and these heavy chains holding me down. I am so excited for what the future holds and what God has planned for my life. I know that whatever that is, it will be amazing. I can't wait to witness everything that God is going to do this summer through everyone on my team and everyone that we will have the opportunity to meet.

Also, a random fact about me: I am a little obsessed with elephants and I'm hoping to see one this summer!
  • tom hubbard

Hi I'm Tom, I am a sophomore majoring in Finance with a minor in Spanish. I have been to Zambia 3 times before, but it will be my first time in Botswana. God has really grown my heart for the people of Africa, and every time I have been to Zambia, I  never want to leave. Both of those trips have been some of the greatest experiences of my life. Jesus commands us in Matthew 28 to "go and make disciples of all nations." Isaiah 6:8 says "And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' Then I said, 'Here I am! Send me!.'" I want a heart like Isaiah's and believe God is calling me to go. I also want as many people as possible to get to experience a trip abroad, which is why I am in charge of our missions team from Mizzou. Fun fact about me: I have an unhealthy obsession with pandas (and I can probably type the word "panda" faster than you!)
